South Africa sends a team of 5 to the World
Sport Stacking Championships in Denver Colorado,
USA
The 8th
Annual WSSA World Sport Stacking Championships was held
in Denver Colorado over the weekend of the
10th and 11th April 2010. The event drew 711
competitors representing 18 countries and 33 states. For
two days, Magness Arena on the University of Denver
campus was the site of the world's premier sport stacking
event. The fastest stackers on the planet vied for record
times in individual timed events and head-to-head
relays.
Byron van Gool, Gilad Katzav, Aveshen
Govender and Terence Vrugtman from the Discovery Scout Group
Sport Stacking Club and Asad Khan from Scottsville Primary
School represented South Africa at the World Sport Stacking
tournament. The South African participants were very excited
to be taking part in this event as it was their first
International event. It was also awesome to see the best
stackers in the world. This included
Steven
Purugganan, the current world
champion.
Byron Van
Gool and Terence Vrugtman were placed in the top 10 in
their age group categories on Saturday and were therefore
eligible to compete in the finals on Sunday. Byron
achieved 6th place in the 3 3
3, 4th in the 3 6 3 and
6th in the Cycle.
Terence achieved 7th for the 3 3 3,
5th
for 3 6 3 and 7th for the Cycle.
